Wax Head Écorché
2023

Medium: Modeling wax
Development
Process
This project involved sculpting a life-size wax écorché head to study and reveal the underlying anatomy of the head and neck. While the core objective was to accurately represent surface and deep anatomical structures, I chose to incorporate a nasal bone fracture and orbital bruising to explore how trauma impacts facial anatomy. This added clinical context allowed the model to serve both as an anatomical reference and a tool for understanding injury.
The sculpture was built using modeling wax applied over a provided plastic skull, with special attention given to the underlying muscle structure, bone landmarks, and the visual cues of trauma. The anatomy was modeled from deepest structures to most superficial.

Final Model
The final project was uploaded to Adobe Photoshop and labeled for presentation. This piece was completed as part of the MSc in Medical Art program at the University of Dundee, combining traditional sculptural methods with a focused clinical narrative to enhance educational value.
