Digital Scapula Painting
2023
University of Dundee, Medical Art - Semester 1
Medium: Adobe Photoshop
Development
Process
This project involved creating a detailed digital painting of the scapula with an emphasis on anatomical accuracy, form, and material texture. The process began with anatomical research and reference gathering from bone specimens, 3D models, and anatomical texts to ensure fidelity to the scapula’s complex surface features. A rough sketch was first developed digitally to establish proportions and positioning. Using Adobe Photoshop, the painting was rendered with a combination of textured brushes and layered tonal work to replicate the subtle variations in bone surface and shading. The digital medium allowed for precise control over highlights, shadow, and depth, helping to communicate the scapula’s three-dimensional structure clearly.
