Research & Practice
This breast cancer poster was developed as part of a self-directed project in Semester Two, aimed at anatomy and pre-medical students. While I initially planned for it to be part of a set with a breast anatomy poster, I ultimately chose to separate them stylistically to better reflect the distinct stages at which students typically encounter these topics.
The goal of this poster was to visually communicate different types of breast cancer and highlight common physical signs. Through research, I discovered that Black women experience the highest mortality rate from breast cancer despite not having the highest incidence rate. In response, I chose to feature a woman of color as the central figure and included these statistics to encourage inclusive and informed education. The final poster, designed at A2 size, was created using Adobe Photoshop. Work-in-progress images are shown below.

Process
A range of graphite grades—from H to B—was used to build depth, form, and tonal variation, carefully rendering the cortical bone texture and subtle curvature of the shaft. Particular attention was given to the trochanters, condyles, and articulating surfaces to highlight structural complexity and function. Blending tools, such as tortillons or tissue, were used sparingly to maintain a clean, precise finish while enhancing the illusion of volume.
